What is scalp micropigmentation?Scalp MicroPigmentation, or SMP as it is commonly known, is a highly specialized process by which tiny deposits of pigment are positioned within the epidermal layer of the skin. When applied by a skilled practitioner, these deposits replicate the look of real shaven hair or will add the appearance of density to longer hair.
-
What is the cost of SMP?The total cost usually runs between CAD $1,000-$5,000 + GST depending on the amount of balding, thinning, scarring… etc. For example, a scar might cost $1,000 to conceal while a client experiencing complete hair loss will incur costs towards $5,000. It's important to be cautious of providers offering procedures for rock bottom prices... remember you are having ink put into your head and you get what you pay for!
-
What is the size of the needle? The needles we use are from Bishop SMP and are 0.17 to 0.20 of a mm for SMP and 0.25 of a mm for adding density. They are made from Surgical Grade Stainless Steel and with the naked eye, it’s impossible to differentiate between a follicle made with our needles and an actual hair follicle.
-
What’s the difference between permanent and semi-permanent?The duration of permanent or semi-permanent depends on the pigment used and the depth of needle penetration during the procedure. Skin type and after-care are also determining factors in achieving lasting results. During your consultation we’ll discuss all of the details and options that are best for you. Clients should follow aftercare instructions carefully for best results.
-
Does scalp micropigmentaion hurt?Generally, SMP is well tolerated with little or no discomfort. Pain tolerance varies from person to person, so we do offer numbing anti bacterial spray with lidocaine for those who are concerned about the pain.
-
How long does the treatment take? The amount of time required depends on many variables. In most cases, a full session will require 3-4 hours.
-
How many session will I need to complete my SMP?In most cases, a full SMP treatment will require a total of 3 sessions with a free touch-up within 1-2 months after the final session.
-
Will the pigment change colour? No, there is absolutely no risk of the colour turning blue or green. We use a Carbon based pigment which contains no blue or green undertones. As with all permanent makeup, fading may occur over time as your skin ages.
-
How many days am I required to wait between sessions? For best results, we recommend waiting 10-14 days to fully heal between scalp micropigmentation sessions.
-
How long does the scalp take to fully heal?Healing time varies from person to person but, in most cases, the scalp will take approximately 7-10 days to fully heal.
-
Do I have to shave my head before the procedure?During your consultation, while taking into consideration your unique situation, we’ll suggest a hair length that will best suite you and your SMP for both short and long term.
